TRON 4.0 Online Conference: Lucas — imToken Head of Growth: What’s the role of wallet in a booming blockchain ecosystem?

Hello, everyone. I’m the head of growth at imToken. It’s my pleasure to be here. So today, my topic is the role of wallets in the blooming Blockchain ecosystem. In my session, I will try to answer 5 questions. What is imToken and what do we do? And what is a decentralized wallet?

And what makes a successful Blockchain ecosystem and how can imToken help? We’ll talk about an example to share, like, how the imToken can onboard users to the Blockchain coefficient and essentially the decentralized finance.

In the end, I will briefly talk about our plan for the future. So what is imToken? It’s a decentralized digital wallet and mobile application. That means you can use the wallet wherever you go as long as you have your phone with you. It is a wallet that supports different public blockchains, for example, TRON, Ethereum, bitcoin, and many more.

ImToken is one of the most popular wallets out there. Currently, there are more than ten million users that have imToken installed. The currency is around 1 million MAU active users.

In terms of this, our users manage over 6 billion U.S. dollars with imToken and accumulated transaction is over 80 billion U.S. dollars.

So as I mentioned, I’m talking about decentralized wallets. If you are new to this space, you may wonder, what are decentralized wallets. So if you look at the chart on the right, I compared decentralized wallets with centralized counterparts. So with the decentralized wallets, you have full control of your assets. But for centralized wallets, it’s actually someone else keeping your assets.

For example, if it’s an exchange, if the exchange is hacked or disturbed, then you’ll lose your access to the asset. With the decentralized wallets, you can easily access it and view it on top of it. This is through registration as long as you have your private key to your wallet. But for centralized wallets, you need to do the registration and sometimes you need to do a KYC as well.

Of course, I’m talking about the decentralized wallet, and exchanges like finance — are an example of centralized wallets.

So there are two key points here. The first is with decentralized wallets, you have the full control of your assets as long as you have your product key. So that’s why in this space, we always say, not your coins. This interacts seamlessly with decentralized applications. That leads me to the next part. The successful Blockchain ecosystem. What makes a successful public Blockchain ecosystem? Well, there’s a whole bunch of important factors. The first one is security. This means the security, which means the assets should be secured, the usage should be secured. The Blockchain itself should be very hard to attack. And the second one is a growing developer ecosystem which means there are developers that should be partners. And the third one is engaged community and userbase. So this means there should be users who are interested in the products that develop them. They are interested in the use cases. So this is very important because it creates a positive feedback loop.

So more developers, more products, more users. In turn, you’re able to track more developers. The last one is the healthy crypto-economic structure. So this means all of the participants should be incentivize properly so the growth is organic and sustainable.

So after knowing these four factors, how can decentralized token like imToken help? In my opinion, the decentralized wallet is especially important for the third factor which is to build an engaged community and user base.

Because the centralized wallets essentially are a bridge or a gateway between the product and the users. So without the users, I don’t think there would be a successful Blockchain system. And in the next slides, I will take IM assets and I can show you how we help the Blockchain ecosystem to grow, especially the centralized ecosystem.

So at the end token, we believe that Blockchain technology can be complicated but the user experience doesn’t have to be. Ment we think the user experience is the key to help users.

For this reason, our users can exchange all kinds of tokens directly within the wallets with just a few tricks. We also have DApp browser in our wallets. Our users can use all kinds of decentralized applications and we even have an action model to work with some of the projects together to transmit the applications into other languages such as Chinese.

So this will make our users easier to use our products. We even created our own DeFi products like imBTC which is a token that allows users to earn interest on their Bitcoin.

Lastly, we do continuous user education. We work with projects together to do education and write codes and materials to educate our users about how to use this publicly. So I guess right now, you already have a better idea of what imToken is, what a decentralized wallet is, and how decentralized wallets can help the ecosystem to grow. You may wonder what is down the road for the future?

I guess you may know that there are already lots of things to work on. Some of the things are already delivered, for example, the imToken wallets and decentralized exchange. And there are still many things, exciting things in the pipeline. For example, the digital, decentralized identity and the decentralized token payments. And because of the time limits, I’m not going to go through each of these components here.

I just want to share, should I say, all of the things we do is centered around the single idea is to provide the best human Blockchain experience to our users. We need the user experience to be the most important thing to onboard users to crypto and we’re trying to do it this way to help make crypto to the mainstream.

We’re always ready to support any Blockchain that has a growing ecosystem or has a promising ecosystem. That’s why we’re very excited about this TRON 4.0 launch.
